Latest generation equipment
Mammography is a method of an X-ray examination that is used to diagnose breast diseases. This method allows discovery of pathological tissue changes at early stages, including both benign and malignant neoplasms.
At Medincentre mammography is conducted on modern digital equipment which provides high precision images with practically no radiation exposure on the body.
When to undergo mammography?
Mammography is recommended for all women over the age of 40 at least once every two years, even in the absence of symptoms. An unscheduled examination is carried out in the following cases:
-
Pain or lumps in the breasts
-
Changes in the shape, size, or color of the breast
-
Nipple discharge
-
History of benign breast conditions (cysts, fibroadenomas)
-
Family history or genetic predisposition to breast cancer
An examination is also prescribed as part of a routine check-up before starting hormone therapy.
What diseases does mammography detect?
-
Cysts
-
Fibroadenomas
-
Breast cancer
-
Mastitis
-
Calcifications
An early diagnosis of these diseases can help avoid serious complications.

Are there contraindications to mammography?
The procedure is a safe diagnostic method, but in certain cases it may be postponed or replaced with alternative examinations.
Absolute contraindications:
-
First trimester of pregnancy – X-rays can potentially harm fetal development.
-
Breastfeeding – the procedure is not recommended, as milk-filled breast tissue reduces the informativeness of the examination.
-
Age under 40 – young women’s breast tissue is more sensitive to radiation, and its structure makes cancer diagnosis by standard mammography more difficult.
-
For patients under 40, breast ultrasound is used.
Is mammography painful?
The procedure might cause slight discomfort because of breast fixation, but that feeling goes away quickly.
How often do you need to undergo mammography?
Women over 40 are recommended to undergo an examination once a year.
Why is digital mammography better than traditional mammography?
Digital mammography provides clearer images and reduces radiation exposure to practically zero.
Can you undergo mammography before 40 y.o.?
Yes, if there are indications such as pain, lumps, or a family history of breast disease.
How fast can I get back my results?
The results of an examination are available in several hours or the next day.
